When we arrived we had no furniture to speak of but, thanks to a great second-hand German furniture shop in Mediaş, we now have a full complement of everything and we think it suits the character of the house quite well. Recently our friend, Lavinia, told us about a man in the next village, Pelişor, who has a whole Saxon house full of Saxon antiques. We went along and met Dan and Dana, his wife, and their dog, pony and deer – yes, two young deer in their garden!
Their place is amazing. They plan to renovate it and live in it eventually but, in the meantime, Dan buys and restores old furniture from old houses all around the area. I could have bought everything - real storm lamps, old Saxon bench beds, tables, chairs, even an old non-electric fridge! Furniture was stacked high in every room. We were really looking for a suitable kitchen table and duly found one but, sadly, it was already sold. We did however buy three traditional chairs, a bench bed for the garden, a small desk and a lovely chair for it. It was a few weeks before the stuff was ready to be delivered and, when Dana phoned me to tell me, our kitchen table was once more available. So, it’s ours! We love it. I think we will be visiting Dan quite a lot!
